Alexander Michels, PhD has been working at the Linus Pauling Institute for over 20 years. He initially came to Oregon State University in Corvallis after graduating from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He was attracted to Linus Pauling Institute because of their cross-disciplinary approach. Investigators at the Institute cross many scientific fields, including Biochemistry, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Toxicology, and Veterinary Medicine.

After graduating with his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2007, he worked with Dr. Balz Frei – then Director of the Linus Pauling Institute. With Dr. Frei, Alex continued to work with vitamin C transport and understanding absorption, but also started to delve into human clinical trials with lipoic acid. Additionally, he started to work with the outreach programs at the Institute, bringing scientific information about many vitamins and minerals (including vitamin C) to a wider audience.

Currently, Alex serves as both a clinical research coordinator and a communications officer for the Linus Pauling Institute. He has published several research articles and book chapters on vitamin C geared for a scientific audience, but also authored publications and produced media related to vitamin C research for public consumption.
